How to actually pay less
Most agencies use tiered pricing: the daily rate drops from 3, 7 or 14 days. For the same trip length, one long rental costs less than two short ones.
Outside school holidays and December–January, prices are noticeably lower and choice is wider. May–June and September–November are the best windows — and the nicest time to visit.
For the coast and town driving, a 125cc scooter or a small city car costs two to three times less than an SUV. Save the 4x4 for volcano and highlands days.
Delivery to the airport or another town may carry a fee. If you're staying near the agency, collect the vehicle there: zero fees, every time.
Price questions, answered
How much does a rental car cost in Réunion?
Small city cars start around €20–25 per day with local agencies, and 125cc scooters under €20. Expect more for an SUV or an automatic. Prices on Tropiloc are all-inclusive and come straight from the agencies.
Are there hidden fees?
No: the total shown before payment includes the rental, any delivery fee and the service fee. The security deposit is left with the agency (pre-authorisation or cheque) and returned after the rental — Tropiloc never charges it.
Is it cheaper to rent at the airport or in town?
Pick-up in the agency's home town is always free. Several agencies deliver to Roland Garros airport, sometimes free, sometimes for a fee: the comparator shows the exact total for each vehicle based on your pick-up point.
Do I pay everything online?
No. You only pay a 30% deposit online to secure the vehicle; the balance is paid directly to the agency on pick-up day.
