Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to rent with confidence in Réunion Island.
Booking & payment
How do I book and pay for my rental?
Choose your vehicle, dates and pick-up point, then book online. You pay a 30% booking deposit to confirm — payment is handled by Stripe, a world leader in online payments: Tropiloc never has access to your card. Confirmation is instant and automatic: you immediately receive an email with your booking voucher to show the agency. The remaining 70% is paid directly to the agency on the day you collect the keys; the exact amount is shown on your voucher.
What are the fees? Are there any hidden costs?
No hidden fees. The displayed price is the total price, taxes included (VAT). Any extras (baby seat, GPS, additional driver…) are clearly shown before payment. The security deposit is not a fee — it is a guarantee returned to you after the rental.
Cancellation & refund
Can I cancel, and will I be refunded?
Yes, from your "My bookings" area. Each vehicle shows its cancellation policy: if free cancellation is offered, your booking deposit is fully refunded (within 5 to 10 business days) as long as you cancel within the stated period — e.g. up to 7 days before pick-up. After that, the booking deposit is non-refundable. The terms are always shown before payment.
Can I cancel after picking up the vehicle?
No. Once the agency has handed over the vehicle, the rental has started and can no longer be cancelled.
Documents & requirements
What documents and requirements (age) are needed?
Book and pay in minutes, with no documents to provide upfront. Once the deposit is paid, add your driving licence (front and back) and a proof of address from your « My bookings » area, before pick-up. On the day, present your original licence and an ID to the agency. A minimum age (often 21) and a minimum number of years holding a licence may apply: these requirements are shown on each vehicle page before booking.
What are the deposit and excess?
The deposit is a guarantee (card hold or cheque) taken by the agency and returned if the vehicle is given back in good condition. The excess is the maximum amount you would pay in case of damage. Amounts are shown on the vehicle page.
On rental day
Where and how do I collect the vehicle?
At the pick-up point chosen when booking (agency, airport…): your voucher contains the exact address, a Google Maps link, the time and the agency's contact. At both pick-up and return, inspect the vehicle with the agency and take your own photos: each agency follows its own condition-report procedure, and your dated photos protect you in case of disagreement.
Mileage and fuel?
The terms (unlimited mileage or not, "full-to-full" fuel policy…) are stated on each vehicle page before booking. No surprises.
What if I break down or have an accident?
Keep your agency's phone number handy — it's on your voucher. It's your first point of contact if anything goes wrong: they'll tell you what to do (assistance, breakdown help, a replacement vehicle depending on their terms). In case of an accident, fill in an accident report, take photos and call 112 if anyone is injured.
Trust & safety
Are the agencies reliable, and what if there's a problem?
All agencies are professional rental companies, vetted by Tropiloc one by one (file checked, manual approval) before they can publish: you rent from established local players in Réunion Island. If you run into difficulty, first contact the agency (details on your voucher); a consumer mediation scheme is available, in line with regulations.
Is my personal data protected?
Yes, in compliance with GDPR. Your documents are stored securely, deleted automatically after the rental, and you can export or delete your data from your profile at any time.
